Depending on the wingspan we recommend a twisted flexible cable with 0.4 – 0.5 mm² cross section and stranded cores.
For the ACL we recommend twisted flexible cable with 1.5 mm² cross section and stranded cores.
We recommend a good non shrinking silicone sealant from a DIY store. This will provide a strong adhesion and only a sharp knife is needed for removal. We strongly advise against using other kinds of adhesion, such as polyester or epoxy resin.
Use a metal countersunk screw (approx. 4 mm x 30 - 35 mm) to fix the EPL and a
thin layer of silicone to paste it to the wing tip. By the application of
silicone, twisting of the LED light is prevented and a sealing against dirt and
water is guaranteed.
Use only screws that do not corrode!
The EPL must be mounted in flight direction parallel to the longitudinal axis
and level of the aircraft.
For the LED-ACL use two non corroding metal screws (M4) of 15 – 25 mm length.
We strongly recommend additional glueing with silicone to prevent a twisting of the light and to guarantee a sealant against dust and water.
When mounting with rivet or clamping nuts use metric counter sunk bolts e.g. M4 x 30 – 35 mm.
Make sure the EPL sits in the correct position - parallel to the longitude axis and horizontally in flight attitude.
The best connection is solder with additional insulation. Connect the cables professionally to the aircraft power system (RED = positive, BLACK = negative, YELLOW = synchronisation, GREEN = FLARM interface).
Only use solder for electronic soldering, never use soldering grease. Soldering grease contains acids which causes corrosion.
Carefully insulate the solder joints with the included shrinking tube. Protect the circuit with a fuse.
Make sure the cables are securly fixed and prevented against abrasion. Luster or screw terminals are inappropriate.
Should the LED-light be scratched, use a good polish to refurbish the damages. With slightly deeper scratches use wet sandpaper with very fine granulation (800-1000), carefully polish again. Do not use aggressive chemicals like gasoline or solvent.
For day to day cleaning soap water is sufficient!
Some insect removers and detergents forces embrittlement of epoxy based plastics and laminates. Use only aircraft certified products.
If the aircraft can not hangarized, please cover the lamps to prevent surface aging!
